Designed by Shoji Takahashi the Figaro was introduced at the 1989 Tokyo Motor Show under the slogan "Back to the Future" and was built by a Nissan Special Projects Group called Pike Factory, which also produced other niche automobiles. Based on the Nissan Micra only four colours were available: Topaz Mist, Emerald Green, Pale Aqua and Lapis Grey and each colour symbolised a season of the year. The Figaro was equipped with a 1.0 Litre Turbo Charged Engine, Automatic Transmission, Power Steering, Electric Windows, Leather Seats, Air Conditioning, Retro Dashboard with Chrome switches, a Clarion integrated Stereo Radio/Cassette/CD Player and a 'fold-back' Sun Roof. Production numbers were initially limited and prospective purchasers had to enter a lottery to be able to buy one. A limited edition of 20,000 were eventually built before production ended in 1991. This lovely example was first registered in Japan in August 1991 and was imported to the UK in December 2007 by Figaro Car Sales in Walton on Thames who sold it to the current owners after registration. It is finished in Emerald Green with the customary Off-White leather trim and has all of the usual Figaro fittings including the original and refurbished Stereo system. It has been very well maintained since and has recently had new suspension arms and bushes, new brake pads, track rod ends, rear shock absorbers and new tyres. The car has now covered 61,000 miles from new and is in beautiful condition throughout. |
